Aikido, known as the 'peaceful martial art', originates in Japan and is a  dynamic Martial Art based on the principles of flow and non-conflict.

Translated as, "The Way of Harmony", Aikido is a Mind/Body art offering both self-defense and health-enhancement for all ages. Aikido is unique as a martial art, in that it is non-violent in nature and stresses harmonious movement and attitude, while remaining very dynamic and vital. It gives it's practitioners more options than simply retaliating and fighting force against force, both in a self-defense context and also in everyday life interactions.

Kids love to learn and experience new things and this field trip program is geared to cater to kindergarten to grade six with the program adapted to age level and skills.

Have your class spend a morning or afternoon learning the basics of Aikido in a fun and easy way, with the kids experiencing the best that martial arts has to offer: focus, discipline, self-control and respect for others and themselves.

And with Aikido they learn non-violent options, mentally and physically, when dealing with conflict situations.

Tai Chi is fully as beneficial for young children, elementary age children and teens.

Chi-Kido is a gentle and soft, fun way to develop body movement skills, focus, memory and balance that incorporates the dynamic action of Aikido, a non-violent martial art, and the gentleness of Tai Chi, a mind/body movement system.

Most people who practice or have even only heard of Tai Chi are aware of the deep, healing benefits the art provides. In western society, it tends to be thought of as a practice for the elderly or infirm as we most often see seniors engaged in the slow, majestic moves of the many forms of Tai Chi and Chi Gong. But Tai Chi is not just for the elderly or those with chronic or acute health problems.

Tai Chi is especially beneficial to young children who are learning balance, coordination and focus skills. It emphasizes a mind-body connection using slow, gentle movements, meditation and deep breathing. Tai Chi requires all the major muscle groups and joints to complete the slow, gentle movements. Tai Chi has been shown to improve balance, agility, strength, flexibility, stamina, muscle tone, and coordination.

Other benefits for children who learn early to practice Tai Chi:

*RELEASE STRESS AND FEEL CALM

*IMPROVE FOCUS AND CONCENTRATION

*IT HELPS STUDENTS ANTICIPATE AND CONTROL INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR

*DEEPER FOCUSED BREATHING SENDS MORE OXYGEN TO THE BRAIN

*VISUALIZATION OF ANIMALS AND NATURE MAKES IT EASY TO RELAX, CALM THE MIND, LET GO OF FRUSTRATIONS AND CONTROL ANGER

*IT IS FUN AND NON-COMPETITIVE. A PERFECT BREAK

*IMPROVES BALANCE AND FLEXIBILITY

*MAKES CHILDREN HEALTHIER – STRENGTHENS THE IMMUNE SYSTEM, IMPROVES DIGESTION, HELPS THEM TO SLEEP BETTER

* INCREASES SELF-ESTEEM.  EVERYONE CAN DO TAI CHI, SO EVERYONE FEELS SUCCESSFUL.

*THE QUIET, PEACEFUL ENERGY OF TAI CHI HELPS CHILDREN KNOW THEMSELVES BETTER AND BELIEVE IN THEIR OWN SUCCESS.

We have developed this fun and dynamic program with early childhood in mind.

Directed at 2-4 year-olds  (we can also accommodate slightly younger or older children as well, and children with disabilities), it offers an Aikido inspired warm-up and flexibility program, and a Kinder Mini-Tai Chi set geared to keep small minds and bodies engaged and having fun while gathering the benefits of Tai Chi and forming an early habit of mind-body movement and relaxation.

The program uses children’s natural love of animals and nature to focus attention and make movement learning fun and memorable.

Children will also learn simple breathing and calming exercises that will engage memory, creativity, and relaxation.

Teacher/Parent Volunteers are required to be present with children on the mats at all times.

Field Trips can be booked mornings or afternoons Monday to Saturday.

Each class is 30 minutes long. We can teach several classes back to back on Field Trip Day.

$12.00 per child. Teachers and Parent Volunteers: No Charge.
